While I have not had time to post this week I have been keeping up with some of the my favorite blogs.  Anya posted this Dove commerical – its message is so important that I am also posting it here.  There are many unrealistic portrayals of women and roles that women should hold in society in addition to the way they should look.  These all contribute to many of the issues that we see with young women such as eating disorders and their motivation to do well in school (not wanting to seem too smart in front of boys).

IMG_0759 Taking a bit of a break today to enjoy what is left of the fall weather.  Pups got all dirty and wet but ball playing was well worth the baths they got when we came home.

Tomorrow my students go into SL to complete their virtual team building experience.  I have to admit that I am a bit nervous – their are so many things that can go wrong and I wonder about there perspective regarding using a virtual world as a class activity.  I am confident that we have rounded up a stellar list of guest speakers including Larry Pixel, Barraca Rhodes, VX Shaw and (hopefully) Aura Lily.  We have thought up a “cover story” in which the students have to work in teams to complete a PR piece on SL.  Not too far fetched, Text 100 has created a wonderful machinima on working in SL.

Snapshot_499 Finally, I completed my piece for slatenight on the Starax exhibit that was held on the NMC Campus.  I was hoping to get a couple of interview but ran out of time but I did have time to create a set of images of his work – visit my Flickr set for Starax to see more.  Also be sure to read the upcoming slatenight issue – lots of very interesting articles.

Its been an extremely hectic week as the Slatenight team helped to wrap up NMC’s Symposium which was held in Second Life.  Heidi and I really pushing ourselves to get everything that we need to get done and what we would like to get done.  We were working on our presentation, Engaging the Disengaged, right up to the last minute, uploading GIFs into SL, fighting with the slide presenter and then finally using the one provided by AngryBeth Shortbread (THANK YOU Angrybeth!!!).  All the of the audio is available on the NMC Campus Observer – I listened to the Fashioning the Avatar presentation and then decided I could not stand my voice for another minute LOL.

Monday night the students do their teambuilding project in SL.  I still have a few items I need to finish up and then there is the survey that we still need to construct.  So much work to do..
